Why a Cabinet and Not a Transformer

Headline transformer makers have reported order books stretching well into next year, which is good news for them and poor news for a small importer: no spare capacity, little negotiating room and long allocation queues. Low voltage switchgear is a different purchasing problem. A panel shop builds to your drawing, holds a revision and can accept a written inspection protocol, so a sourcing partner can actually add value. That is the reason this page exists.

It is also where the equipment hub needs a grid-side product. Our solar, storage and power equipment hub covers the whole family, and our switchgear and power distribution guide goes into standards and project roles. CinoSourcing is a China sourcing agent and freight forwarder, not a panel builder or a certification body.

The Drawing Is the Quotation

A switchgear cabinet is a made-to-order assembly. Until the single line diagram, rated voltage and frequency, fault level, busbar arrangement, incoming and outgoing circuits, protection devices, metering, enclosure and ingress rating, cable entry and the applicable assembly standard are written down, two suppliers will quote different products and call them the same thing. Ask each to state which standard the assembly is designed and verified against, and which tests will be performed on the finished cabinet rather than on a component catalogue page.

Type tests, routine tests and a factory acceptance test are three different things. The first validates a design, the second checks every unit produced, and the third is the witnessed event before your shipment is released. Agree the FAT protocol, the instrument list, who attends or reviews the record, and what happens when a test fails. Our factory verification process covers how the panel shop’s real capability and export history are checked up front.

Before a deposit. Freeze the single line diagram, rated voltage and fault level, assembly standard, busbar and breaker schedule, enclosure and ingress rating, arc-flash and labelling assumptions, type and routine test list, FAT protocol, nameplate and manual languages, crate design and the importer of record. No line on that list should be settled verbally.

Evidence Layers That Are Often Conflated

A component certificate for a breaker is not an assembly verification. A type test report describes a design family, not the cabinet on your pallet. A declaration of conformity is a manufacturer’s statement, not a market approval. And no general-purpose electrical certificate transfers the duties of whichever business places the goods on a market. Keep those four separate, and match every document to the drawing revision and the nameplate.

Destination duties add another layer: who may legally import, under which classification, who answers for the labelling, and whether an economic operator must be identified for the online offer. We gather and sort the paperwork, flag drawing or model mismatches, and state in writing who is importer of record. We issue nothing and offer no legal opinion; a licensed broker or qualified local adviser should confirm the final determination. Our DDP service page explains where the delivery term meets that responsibility, and our FAQ answers the common commercial questions.

Stage Decision it locks Record to retain
Design freeze What is actually being built Approved single line diagram, breaker schedule, revision number and sign-off
Verification Which design evidence applies Assembly-standard verification, type test references, component reports
Production and FAT Whether this cabinet passes Routine test sheet, wiring check, insulation and functional results, FAT record
Packing and import Whether it arrives usable and clears Crate photos, packing list, invoice, labels, broker-confirmed classification

Branding, Spares and the Second Order

A logo on the door, a nameplate and a manual set are straightforward. Changing the busbar, breaker series or enclosure is a design change with a fresh verification trail. Label each request as artwork or engineering. Decide the spare fuse, indicator and contactor list during specification, because those parts are requested first on site and forgotten in tenders. Our private label guide and packaging guide cover the artwork side.

Crating, Weight and Consolidation

A cabinet is tall, heavy and easily damaged at the corners, so the crate design, lifting points, moisture protection and container loading sequence are part of the specification, not an afterthought. Measure the packed dimensions and gross weight at sample stage and compare them with the chargeable weight before committing. Where a project also needs cable, an inverter or a BOS kit from other workshops, one consolidated shipment with one customs entry usually beats several partial consignments. Our consolidation guide explains the arithmetic.

Send the single line diagram, rated voltage and fault level, applicable assembly standard, enclosure and ingress requirements, market and quantity, test and documentation expectations, label languages and whether a witnessed FAT is required. Send an enquiry or use either WhatsApp button. No unit price, minimum, delivery window or duty amount appears here; all four depend on the approved drawing and destination.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build to our engineer’s drawing?

Yes. We shortlist panel shops that accept a written specification and inspection protocol, then hold the approved drawing revision as the reference for every reorder. A change to the breaker schedule or busbar is treated as a new design, not a note on the packing list.

Do you provide type test reports?

We collect design verification, routine test sheets and component documents from the panel shop and the laboratory, then check that each matches the drawing revision. We issue nothing ourselves; a licensed broker or local adviser should confirm the final market position.

Can we order one cabinet first?

Yes, and the same approval file can govern the batch. Our low MOQ guide explains how to frame the conversation so a pilot is priced as the start of a programme.

Who is the importer of record under DDP?

Under DDP the seller handles the import side, but someone must still be importer of record and answer for classification and duty treatment. We state that split in writing before work starts. Our DDP service page sets out the boundary.

It helps to name the applicable assembly standard, the type and routine test reports expected, enclosure and ingress rating, busbar and breaker preferences, label languages, and who acts as importer of record. A drawing or a tender excerpt is enough to begin.
